The Power of Small

Good morning and welcome to August 10th and a Fantabulous Friday! Are you sitting back wondering what I’m going to say this morning with a title like that? Another way to say the same thing is “It’s the little things in life that make the biggest difference.” So let’s refill our cups, pull up a chair, and let me tell you what inspired this writing. Norman Greenbaum greets me this morning with his 1969 hit, Spirit In The Sky.

Gold is currently up +$2.70 this morning at $1,214.80.

Silver is currently down-$0.06 at $15.36.

Platinum is currently down -$1.00 at $830.

Palladium is currently up +$3.00 at $905.

Trading of the metals so far this month have been so tight that we literally have no change in spot from 10 days ago!

So I’m sharing a personal experience that occurred yesterday instead of talking coins this morning. It’s something I rarely do, only because I figure most folks have better things to do than read someone’s journal. But today is different and I hope this story can help make your day a little brighter.

Let me set the stage…

After a rejuvenating discussion with Doug Meadows and his son Joseph last month, I’ve refocused myself, reignited my passions for metals, coins, and blogging. I’m learning WordPress, preparing to start a podcast, a YouTube channel, and possibly even a Saturday morning radio show. I now have an office in Doug and Joseph’s store, “David Douglas Diamonds & Jewelry” in East Marietta and have a display case filled with coins and currency for sale. In other words, life has become much busier with me appraising, buying, and selling Tuesday through Saturday.

So yesterday, after I had finished my blog and uploaded it to the web it was nearing noon and I was beginning to get hungry. I had a few things to finish up before lunch which ended up taking longer than expected and I was still there at 1:30. My phone rang and when I answered it, my son was on the other end. He said that I had an order sitting at Starbucks waiting for me to pick up. Now you’ve got to understand my son. His office is in his home. He has two boys, ages ten and five. He works 60 plus hours a week and is married to an attorney who puts in 14 hour days. So in between meetings, about meetings, planning other meetings, he is managing the home, refereeing his boys, and focusing on his marriage. And to top all of that, he thinks of his dad, contacts Starbucks, and orders me a “Salted Caramel Cold Foam Cold Brew” and a vanilla bean scone. Now I can’t speak for you, but when was the last time someone did some little something for you smack in the middle of your crazy-busy day just to say “I’m thinking about you,” or better yet, “You’re loved!”

We lose so many opportunities every day to make someone feel appreciated… special… cared for. So thank you again my son for the sparkle in my day that continues now for a second day. I am taking your act of love to heart and will pass it along.

Well, I’ll let that be it for today. Go out there and make a difference! See ya later!
